Rescued Young Girls Share Horrifying Tale of Exploitation in Anambra Brothel

From reports, young girls who were recently rescued from a brothel in Anambra State have disclosed the harrowing ordeal they endured. They claimed to have been coerced into having relations with at least 10 men daily by their handlers.

These girls, totaling approximately 29 in number, with two of them being underage, were ensnared into a life of prostitution. Fortunately, their plight was brought to an end when Anambra State government officials and police forces carried out a daring raid on a hotel in the Oba community within the Idemili South local government area. The operation was prompted by a vigilant whistleblower who had noticed suspicious activities in the vicinity of the hotel.

Following their rescue, the underage girls were immediately taken to the hospital for medical evaluations and potential treatment under the supervision of the ministry.

One of the rescued girls bravely recounted their horrifying experience: “Each morning, we received a meager 500 Naira for our sustenance, but after that, we were compelled to engage with multiple men. In cases of failure to comply, we faced physical violence. On weekdays, we sometimes made 4,000 Naira, but on weekends, our earnings could soar to 10,000 or even 15,000 Naira, with the bulk of the money being siphoned off by the hotel’s owner.”

Ify Obinabo, the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, affirmed that arrests had been made and vowed to ensure justice was served. She emphasized that the ministry’s investigation had unveiled that the hotel, operating under the name ‘Ten Top’ in Oba, was involved in trafficking girls from various parts of the country for the explicit purpose of prostitution.

Obinabo stressed the state government’s unwavering commitment to eradicating child kidnapping, trafficking, and sex slavery within the region. She urged the people of Anambra to promptly report any suspicious activities in their vicinity.

The girls who were rescued ranged in age from 16 to 24 years. Obinabo mentioned that the brothel owner and other individuals responsible for luring these girls into the illicit trade had been apprehended and would soon face legal proceedings in the Children, Sexual, and Gender-Based Violence Magistrate Court in Awka following thorough investigations.
