Nigeria Customs Service Plans Fair Distribution of Seized Food Items Amid Rising Costs

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is willing to distribute seized food items to Nigerians to help ease the current hardship in the country. This comes as many young Nigerians have protested in various parts of the country due to the high cost of food items.

In response to the challenges of food security and high prices of essential food items in Nigeria, the Controller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has announced plans to distribute seized food items to Nigerians.

According to a statement by the Customs Public Relations Officer, CSC Abdullahi Maiwada, this initiative is aimed at supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s food security program and serving the well-being of the Nigerian public.

The Customs Administration will work to ensure that the seized food items are safe for consumption and will distribute them fairly across the country. The modalities for distribution will prioritize transparency, fairness, and public health.

Meanwhile, Vice President Kashim Shettima has confirmed the interception of 45 trucks carrying maize to neighboring countries, which has helped reduce the price of maize in the local market.

The government is implementing various measures to ensure food security nationwide.
