The APC candidate, Usman Ododo, has won the Kogi state governorship election with 446,237 votes.

The announcement was made by the State Returning Officer, Prof Johnson Urama. The SDP candidate, Murtala Ajaka, came second with 259,052 votes, while PDP’s Dino Melaye scored 46,362 votes.

Ododo secured victory in over half of the 21 local government areas. There were concerns over “filled result sheets” in Ogori/Magongo LGA, leading INEC to suspend elections in nine wards and schedule a fresh poll in 59 polling units on November 18, 2023.

The condition for the fresh polls depends on the Returning Officer’s application of the Margin of Lead Principle.

Ajaka and Melaye rejected the outcome, alleging collusion between INEC, security agencies, and the ruling APC in Kogi.
