Cubana Chief Priest Faces Naira Abuse Charges in Lagos Court

The well known nightlife promoter Cubana Chief Priest, whose real name is Pascal Okechukwu, is facing charges related to alleged misuse of Nigerian currency, the Naira. He appeared today at a Federal High Court in Lagos for his arraignment.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) filed three separate charges against Cubana Chief Priest, accusing him of “tampering and abusing the Naira” on three different occasions. These incidents reportedly occurred at events held in Lagos:

  • Eko Hotel on February 13th, 2024
  • An unnamed location in January 2024
  • Another unnamed location in 2020

The specific details of Cubana Chief Priest’s alleged actions haven’t been disclosed, but Nigerian law prohibits Handlungen (“actions”) that deface, mutilate, or disrespect the Naira. This includes spraying or throwing banknotes during celebrations.
