Abia State Ministry of Environment bans the use of Styrofoam

The use of Styrofoam packs, commonly known as “take away,” has been prohibited by the Abia State Ministry of Environment.

Commissioner Philemon Ogbonna signed the statement announcing the ban on Saturday, Jan. 27. This decision follows a similar ban in Lagos State.

Commissioner Ogbonna urged the public to cease using the packs immediately until the health risks are thoroughly investigated.

Additionally, Lagos State has extended the prohibition on styrofoam and other disposable plastics for an additional three weeks.

Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab emphasized the priority of the state’s residents’ well-being over financial gains from styrofoam production in the official statement.
